SUMMARY

The development of a more complete model of the immunological events leading to the development of obliterative bronchiolitis and the enhancement of tolerance mechanisms to mitigate the process in patients receiving lung transplants. Such a series of events has vascular consequences and the complex interaction with the pulmonary vascular bed with both humoral and cellular immune responses requires further exploration.

The pathogenesis of sarcoidosis continues to be poorly understood. The role of innate and acquired immunological deficiency in this disease is an area of considerable interest requiring further work to the identify and mitigate the immune defects.
