Sproat.Lisa@mayo.edu Clinical Profile

SUMMARY

As a researcher, Lisa Z. Sproat, M.D., studies acute leukemias, including acute myeloid leukemia and acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Her research also focuses on myelodysplastic syndrome and chronic myeloid leukemia. As a clinician, Dr. Sproat provides individualized care for patients with these diseases.

Focus areas

  • Mutations in the FLT3 gene. Dr. Sproat is conducting a clinical trial for people with malignancies and FLT3 mutations. She is investigating whether an FLT3 inhibitor can help people who have an FLT3 mutation and certain conditions.

Significance to patient care

Currently, most acute leukemias are not cured by chemotherapy alone, and people must proceed to allogeneic stem cell transplants. The goal is to find improved targeted agents and chemotherapies that would induce cures and eliminate the need for allogeneic stem cell transplants.
