Verdoorn.Jared@mayo.edu Clinical Profile

SUMMARY

Jared T. Verdoorn, M.D., is a neuroradiologist with research interests in the areas of diagnosis and treatment of spinal cerebrospinal fluid leaks, image-guided spine procedures and diagnostic spine imaging. His research goals are to advance knowledge in these areas and ultimately improve the clinical care of patients. Dr. Verdoorn endeavors to study practical topics that can be applied to everyday clinical practice to improve diagnosis and treatment outcomes in patients.

Focus areas

  • Diagnosis of spinal cerebrospinal fluid leaks. Dr. Verdoorn assesses image-guided techniques for cerebrospinal fluid leak localization to determine optimal diagnostic approaches. He also evaluates brain MRI characteristics that may indicate the presence of a spinal cerebrospinal fluid leak.
  • Treatment outcomes of spinal cerebrospinal fluid leaks. Dr. Verdoorn studies the outcomes of patients treated for spinal cerebrospinal fluid leaks to identify factors that may improve results.

Significance to patient care

Spinal cerebrospinal fluid leaks often go unnoticed. This results in delays in finding this condition in many patients. Patients can have debilitating symptoms — most commonly headaches. Increased awareness, improved diagnostic imaging techniques and superior treatment options lead to better care and results for patients with this condition.
