Wasif.Nabil@mayo.edu Clinical Profile

SUMMARY

Nabil Wasif, M.D., is interested in cancer research, specifically cancer care delivery and comparisons of treatment effectiveness. He uses large cancer databases to look at quality of care, care disparities and outcomes following treatment.

Focus areas

Dr. Wasif studies:

  • The policy implications of complex cancer surgery by geographic region.
  • Approaches to make complex cancer surgery safer.
  • Quality-of-life considerations and competing risks influencing decision-making in older patients.

Significance to patient care

As the population ages, it's getting harder to balance the risks and benefits of surgery for older patients with multiple illnesses. Cancer care research at the national level can help answer many important questions about clinical management. Studies like those of Dr. Wasif also can help streamline the effective delivery of cancer-related care for individual patients.
