Chi Zhang, M.D., focuses on improving healthcare delivery and clinical outcomes. She is particularly interested in healthcare utilization and quality-of-life issues for patients after surgery.

Focus areas

  • Healthcare utilization. Dr. Zhang studies patterns of current surgical practices. She researches the mechanisms behind practice variations across a multitude of general surgery operations in the United States and how these variations contribute to clinical outcomes.
  • Clinical outcomes. Dr. Zhang assesses the clinical outcomes and survival following complex intra-abdominal operations. She analyzes these outcomes and survival using a variety of analytic methodologies, including clinical archives, national registries and insurance claims databases.
  • Quality of life. To pair with clinical outcomes after surgery, Dr. Zhang has a long-standing interest in patient-centered outcomes after surgery. She has evaluated outcomes through survey-based research assessing patient satisfaction and financial toxicity following complex surgeries.
