Clinical Trials

Part of Mayo Clinic's commitment to its patients involves conducting medical research that can help people live longer, healthier lives. Clinical trials are research studies that involve volunteer participants. These human studies help physician-scientists better understand, diagnose, treat and prevent diseases and conditions.

The Gastrointestinal Barrier Function Laboratory's clinical trials test the effectiveness, safety and performance of drugs. Some of these drugs are intended to measure small intestinal permeability. Others are to treat people with irritable bowel syndrome or functional dyspepsia. The lab also participates in multicenter clinical trials.
