Regenerative Medicine Education Collaborations

Collaboration, apprenticeship, simulation and team-based learning enable education at Mayo Clinic to span beyond classroom walls and across medical disciplines. The Center for Regenerative Biotherapeutics works with leading academic medical organizations across the nation to transform education so that tomorrow's care providers are prepared for the health care challenges ahead. Strong national and international collaborations provide students with global health learning experiences and opportunities for dual degrees.

Regenerative Medicine Minnesota

Mayo Clinic is a partner in a collaborative effort to move Minnesota to the forefront of regenerative medicine and science. In 2014, the Minnesota State Legislature allocated 10 years of funding for initiatives that improve or increase access to regenerative medicine throughout the state.

Mayo Clinic researchers have been awarded grants to support innovative research, drive regenerative medicine biobusiness and biotechnology, and develop outreach education programs to further the field of regenerative medicine.

Arizona State University

Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine — Arizona Campus welcomed its inaugural class of 50 students to its new four-year program in July 2017. It will see an overall enrollment of more than 200 students by 2020. The school's innovative science of health care delivery curriculum, developed in collaboration with Arizona State University (ASU), trains future physicians to meet the challenges of the nation's evolving and diversifying health care system.

Mayo Clinic Center for Regenerative Biotherapeutics and ASU have a close working relationship for collaborative educational initiatives. This includes efforts to develop joint sponsorship of advanced degrees in regenerative sciences.

Karolinska Institutet

In collaboration with the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden, Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and the Mayo Clinic Center for Clinical and Translational Science offer Regenerative Medicine: Principles to Practice (MPET 6820) (PDF).

The course follows a discovery-translation-application curriculum, and is designed to introduce students to the principles of stem cell biology and provide an appreciation for applications in regenerative medicine and surgery. Students use electronic platforms for collaboration for research proposals and co-presentations. Professors alternate lecture assignments and offer a range of topics for discussion.
