Overview
The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs and Research Training (OPART) provides support and advocacy for the professional and academic needs of Mayo Clinic research students and fellows. Our goal is to develop future leaders in biomedical research and education by recruiting remarkable research students and fellows to Mayo Clinic and supporting their career development.
We oversee postdoctoral and research training at Mayo Clinic by:
- Facilitating yearly individual career development plan reviews.
- Providing career counseling.
- Offering career development seminars and workshops.
- Facilitating the biennial Mayo Clinic Research Day and biennial Young Investigators Research Symposium.
- Supporting the professional and social work of the Mayo Research Fellows' Association.
Why select Mayo Clinic for research training?
- Mayo Clinic is a leading academic medical and research center with an annual research budget of more than $1.2 billion. More than $750 million of this funding comes from competitive extramural grants and contracts.
- Students and fellows at Mayo work on a wide range of biomedical research projects in state-of-the-art facilities. They learn from 300-plus highly successful career scientists. They work on basic science research, translational disease-oriented research and clinical research in over 1 million square feet of dedicated space.
- Research, clinical practice and education are intertwined. This close integration allows Mayo to quickly find and verify new tests and treatments, deliver them to patients, and share this knowledge with the next generation of clinicians and scientists.
- Mayo Clinic's three campuses offer the unique opportunity to train in Arizona, Florida and Minnesota. Find out more about campus and community life.
- Mayo has an unwavering commitment to equity, inclusion and diversity.
"Mayo Clinic researchers are addressing the world's most challenging health care needs," says Gianrico Farrugia, M.D., president and CEO of Mayo Clinic. "Researchers relentlessly pursue discoveries that will deliver cures and better health to people today and for generations to come. Mayo Clinic is one of the most comprehensive research institutions in the world — where ideas for improving care rapidly advance from the laboratory to the clinic to address unmet patient needs."
