Usefulness of Color M-mode for Vena Contracta of Aortic Regurgitation in Patients with Left Ventricular Assist Devices

About this study

The purpose of this study is to assess the feasibility of color M mode and standard vena contracta measurements and compare these to novel measurements of aortic regurgitation in left ventricular assist devices (LVADs).

Participation eligibility

Participant eligibility includes age, gender, type and stage of disease, and previous treatments or health concerns. Guidelines differ from study to study, and identify who can or cannot participate. There is no guarantee that every individual who qualifies and wants to participate in a trial will be enrolled. Contact the study team to discuss study eligibility and potential participation.

Inclusion Criteria:

  • Adult patients ≥ 18 years old with LVAD in situ undergoing routine surveillance echocardiography at Mayo Clinic Rochester.
    • Heart mate II LVAD
      • 10 patients with < moderate aortic regurgitation and 10 patients with ≥ moderate aortic regurgitation
    • Heartware HVAD
      • 10 patients with

Exclusion Criteria: 

  • Patients with poor echo window.
