Meet the team
Dr. Jerschow's research team advances understanding of aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD) and related conditions.
Dr. Chen joined Dr. Jerschow's lab in 2022. He has led multiple research projects aimed at identifying new therapeutic targets and improving clinical management strategies for patients with AERD. His work is at the forefront of advancing translational research in this field to bridge the gap between basic science discoveries and practical applications in patient care.
Dr. Chen earned his doctoral degree in 2006 from Mayo Graduate School (now known as Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences), where his research focused on the complex immunological mechanisms driving asthma and allergic airway inflammation. With a robust background in cellular and molecular immunology, Dr. Chen has contributed significantly to understanding how environmental, genetic and immune system factors intersect in the development of allergic airway inflammation, such as asthma and chronic rhinosinusitis symptoms.
Alex joined the Aspirin-Exacerbated Respiratory Disease Laboratory in 2023. His primary interest lies in exploring the molecular mechanisms and evolution of host-microbial interactions within the human body, with an emphasis on identifying clinically relevant biomarkers through omics technologies.
Alex earned a bachelor's degree in invertebrate zoology from Lomonosov Moscow State University in 2019 and a master's degree in molecular microbiology from Skoltech Institute of Science and Technology in 2021, both in Moscow, Russia.
Dr. Orihara joined Dr. Jerschow's laboratory in 2024. He is researching perioperative anaphylaxis, with a focus on discovering the mechanisms of allergic reactions.
Dr. Orihara graduated from Fukushima Medical University School of Medicine in Japan in 2010 and from Gunma University Graduate School of Health Sciences in Japan in 2020 with a doctor of philosophy in medical sciences.
Maria joined the Jerschow Lab in 2024. Her research interests focus on cellular interactions in cancer and autoimmune and allergic diseases within the context of translational medicine.
Maria completed a bachelor's degree in invertebrate zoology in 2019 and a master's degree in cell and tissue biology in 2021, both at Lomonosov Moscow State University. After graduation, she worked for several years at a precision medicine company, where she identified genomic and transcriptomic biomarkers to guide the selection of targeted therapies for patients with cancer.
