Integrating AI research into clinical practice improves diagnosis, recovery and monitoring.

Overview

The Orthopedic Surgery Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (OSAIL), led by Cody C. Wyles, M.D., and Michael J. Taunton, M.D., is pursuing state-of-the-art tools and analytics to design novel treatments for a wide variety of orthopedic conditions.

Our lab is innovating the practice of orthopedics by leveraging cutting-edge techniques in artificial intelligence (AI), including machine learning, deep learning and large language models. Our lab supports active investigation in all anatomic areas of orthopedic surgery through leadership from world experts in each subdiscipline. Our lab team has multidisciplinary expertise in orthopedics, radiology, epidemiology, biostatistics and medical imaging informatics.

The Orthopedic Surgery Artificial Intelligence Lab is revolutionizing care by integrating AI into the clinical workflow. This integration significantly improves the accuracy of diagnosis and the effectiveness of treatment. AI-driven tools developed by our team reduce the time required for medical imaging analysis, improve the customization of surgical plans and enable more precise monitoring of recovery.

Ultimately, these advancements lead to safer surgical procedures, quicker recoveries and better overall health outcomes for people with orthopedic conditions.
