Trauma
A note from the division program director
- Jenni Tangtiphaiboontana, M.D.
The Division of Orthopedic Trauma prioritizes care of people who are acutely sick and injured in the Southeast Minnesota region. The division has collected and analyzed data on outcomes of surgical treatment of fractures for more than 20 years, leading to improvements in care.
Physicians in our division have subspecialty interest in a variety of fields, including:
- Upper extremity reconstruction.
- Lower extremity reconstruction.
- Lower limb corrections.
- Sacroiliac joint conditions.
Within our division, the Gap Year Program provides an opportunity to work on retrospective, prospective and biomechanical studies related to trauma. Responsibilities include project design, scientific literature search, data collection, statistical evaluation and manuscript preparation.
Fellows in our program gain experience in a wide range of topics that align with their interests. In addition to conducting research, fellows engage in a morning trauma conference, weekly lectures and a clinical rotation at Mayo Clinic. Fellows collaborate on combined projects with other orthopedic divisions. They also receive mentorship and guidance about applications and interviews to help achieve a successful Orthopedic Surgery Match.
The Division of Orthopedic Trauma accepts one student through the Gap Year Program.
