Improving maternal and infant health
The Umbilical Cord Blood Biobank provides investigators with specialized biospecimens for research to improve care for Mayo's youngest patients and their moms.
Mayo Clinic Umbilical Cord Blood Biobank
Mayo Clinic's Umbilical Cord Blood Biobank houses a specialized collection of biospecimens to enable pediatric research into the unique medical needs of newborn babies and their mothers.
This collection, begun in 2012, includes both processed umbilical cord blood and maternal blood samples and forms the basis of the Umbilical Cord Blood Cohort, complementary to the larger Southeast Minnesota Birth Cohort.
To date, Mayo's biobank has enrolled approximately 400 mother-infant pairs into the cohort.
