Why did you choose research as a career?
During my research experiences as an undergrad, I recognized that I enjoy working behind the scenes of patient care as a scientist.
Ultimately, I want to be at the vanguard of diagnostic technology, and I know that research will provide me with many opportunities to fulfill my career and life goals.
What attracted you to Mayo Graduate School?
I really appreciate the connection between medicine and science that is strongly evident at Mayo Clinic. This institution is a platform for translational and team science. Knowing that I can take part in collaborations and dabble in different research areas, including clinical research, is what made Mayo a perfect fit for me.
Why did you choose the clinical and translational science track?
As I explored graduate programs during my post-baccalaureate year, I realized that I had no clue what kind of graduate program I was interested in. A former mentor suggested I look into clinical and translational science programs.
I found this track best aligned to my research interests and career goals. I think the multidisciplinary approach and focus on patient care makes it a well-rounded program.
What do you like about Rochester, Minnesota?
The small-town feel makes it great for students to concentrate on studying. Nature watching and outdoor sports are a plus!
What are your plans for the future?
I hope to continue on my path to becoming an ambassador in the research community for aspiring underrepresented Hispanic scientists.
I plan to work for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in developing novel therapies for infectious diseases.
